The show that almost made me a vegetarian is back.
Aside from any variation of the Sweeney Todd legend, it's something that makes you consider what you're really eating.
...My jokes are terrible.
Don't worry, I will not spoil any scenes from any episode for those who have not seen the show yet. I've been meaning to write about this series for a long time.
Anyway, I'm so glad that the Hannibal series was not cancelled after season 1. There was some uneasy speculation about it, but at least it didn't go through. Now I think the show is popular enough to stay.
It's definitely my favorite horror series, right up with American Horror Story, & True Detective.
I suspect that Mads Mikkelsen had a lot of pressure to live up to the role of Hannibal, especially after Anthony Hopkins' iconic, chilling portrayal. I don't know about Brian Cox's portrayal in Manhunter, because I have not seen it.
But I think that Mikkelsen (and the writing staff) put his own, utterly terrifying spin on the character. I wish I remembered which interview clip it was, but Mikkelsen astutely compares Hannibal to Satan.
I'm not sure which of his crimes were the worst, because he commits so many over the course of 26 episodes (so far). This TV series definitely reiterates that Hannibal Lecter is one of the cruelest, most sadistic [human] villains in fiction-- in my opinion, at least.
Then again, the crimes and pathologies of the other killers in the series spawn another kind of surreal, stomach-turning horror. A twisted, writhing abyss of nightmares.
I wonder if the writers and set crew place bets on who could create the most horrifying crime scenes. Because... damn.
I don't understand why characters like Will, Jack, and Alana didn't suspect something when Hannibal started waxing romantic on the act of murder in season 1.
His twisted little spiels reminded me of a quote by Richard Ramirez, AKA the night stalker killer.
"We’ve all got the power in our hands to kill, but most people are afraid to use it. The ones who aren’t afraid, control life itself."
Or this quote by a 1930s sadomasochist cannibal (and rapist) of children, Albert Fish:
"I always had the desire to inflict pain on others and to have others inflict pain on me. I always seemed to enjoy everything that hurt. The desire to inflict pain, that is all that is uppermost."
I like how the wendigo motifs play into Will Graham's hallucinations. In Algonquian tribal folklore, a wendigo is a monster that feeds upon human flesh. In some tales, they were once human who became beasts after partaking in cannibalism. In others, they are evil spirits.
Also, I think that seeing Laurence Fishburne as Jack Crawford is really cool. The same goes for Gillian Anderson as Bedelia Du Maurier.
...On an unrelated note, using the mobile DA site is rather cumbersome.

I might as well update this
People rarely read these even when DA didn't have all these annoying unnecessary changes to it. I barely look at the DA front pages due to the surge of AI-generated plagiarism over the course of 2023. I hope this crap goes the embarrassing way of the NFT Apes. When I first came to DA in December 2006, I was full of optimism. Now, I'm full of regrets and embarrassment. There were a lot of genuinely rotten depraved people that I wish I never interacted with. I made tons of comments that I regret, too. I wish I can take it all back, what awful baggage. Getting into the Hetalia series was one of my bigger regrets. The fandom had some vile scumbags in it. ...Russia invaded Ukraine, happy now, you sadistic fuckers?! I don't want to know what those monsters have to say about Israel massacring Palestinian people again. And God help you if you denounce racism and sexism on here- people were evil as hell about it years ago. I'm sure that it's much worse now. At least I never got covid-19
this site is so broken
I can't see large images, everything loads at a snail's pace. I tried to make a comment on a drawing, but the screen kept freezing so I didn't bother. The layouts are so cumbersome & redundant. This site used to be so much better... back in the late 2000s.
I'm still alive, not very active on here
I'm just not active on here because this community seems to have been a dead zone for years. *sigh* Nobody even wants to talk about fun things. I can't remember the last time I logged in. I look at my notifications and they're slower and more cumbersome than ever before. I can't save pictures as well as I used to, either. What to do... And I was so right about there being a lot of evil in the world. I wish I was wrong.
Finally, my inbox is down to 56
At long last. I chipped away at it for the last 5 days, despite Eclipse being obnoxiously slow and clunky on purpose. Perhaps I can keep it manageable if I log in once a week or so. It was nice just looking at art during that time. I also looked at a lot of recent Crash Bandicoot art and I felt like a teenager again. Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time is such a good game, by the way. Also, Happy Twin Peaks Day.
