Because that is true, I’ve been crying all afternoon.
“We make up horrors to help us cope with the real ones.”-- Stephen King
Once again, my favorite author hits the nail on the head. No ravenous monster, evil spell, macabre ritual, or eldritch monstrosity bubbling in a human’s imagination could ever hope to compare with the horrors lurking in the world we are currently living in.
And you can thank some great writers right here on DA for recognizing and denouncing those wretched horrors:

But Jesus H. Christ, could you imagine this?!? A faulty button or some shit prevented the east coast from being ANNIHILATED. Dr. Strangelove would have been prophetic, and I’m not even JOKING:

About 5 months ago, I read another article about a person who literally saved the world from a nuclear war. He was (understandably), frozen and anxious, but he still managed to stop and think. I’m glad he made the correct decisions and avoided a catastrophe: www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/09… I can’t thank Lieutenant Colonel Petrov enough. Hell, we should ALL thank this man. He must have nerves of steel to face what could’ve been.
More on the inherent dangers of nuclear power plants on our health and the environment:

It breaks my heart to read about these cases; it reminds me of the Andrea Yates case— but she was in the middle of a psychotic breakdown. I first read about the Yates case when I was 12 or 13, and I was so distraught that I asked my Mom how someone would even consider killing their children. She told me that Yates “was a very, very sick woman who had terrible problems with her mental health.”
Mom was correct, and I agreed with her, but I was still terrified and upset. The case still frightens me whenever I see it referenced in an article or a text. Can you imagine the fear and anguish for everyone involved?? I’m afraid to.
And people who do this are even sicker. Or they’re pure evil.

Fuck you, Putin! I hope you and your cronies choke on it! twitter.com/BSpringnote/status…
www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/02/20… Not only is this an incalculably vicious act of violence and savagery, a lot of cretins in the Comment Section are far less concerned and empathic about the victims and survivors of this evil crime, instead spewing out the usual “all Christians are evil” rants and calling for their torture. And some of them are not even referring to the perpetrators of these crimes! Ecological fallacies and stupidity abounds…
Well at least ONE commenter bothered to stop and think: “Personally, my mouth is agape that this heinous story is being hijacked by the religion argument. This is a PEDOPHILE in a costume.”
Speaking of stupidity, I’d also like to give a hearty “FUCK YOU!” to Noam Chomsky for his racist, intentionally misleading, and inaccurate input on zombies in modern American fiction. www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/02/14… The concept of a zombie is actually from Haitian voodoo (still North American), but I digress.
This was my reaction, more or less: d24w6bsrhbeh9d.cloudfront.net/…
If I recall correctly, George Romero’s version of Dawn of the Dead denounced mindless consumerism and the rampant herd mentality (or angry mob, I guess) by representing it as a horde of hungry, single-minded zombies.
Modern zombies in the 21st century still carry these themes, along with feelings of hopelessness, emptiness, wandering around mindlessly with no purpose other than hunger for human flesh and whatnot. I observed this in “Warm Bodies” (sadly, I have not read the book yet), but it was a great movie (I don’t want to spoil anything for you guys).
Zombie apocalypse jokes are common these days, and that’s totally understandable. I like those jokes, they’re usually funny.
Sadly, there are some schmucks who think a zombie apocalypse in the styles of The Walking Dead or The Evil Dead would be fun or badass. Of course, if they watched the show/movies or read the comic, and paid attention to any of ‘em, they would see a zombie apocalypse would not be fun at all.
I merely say: "Be careful what you wish for."
...I’ll be under my desk.

I might as well update this
People rarely read these even when DA didn't have all these annoying unnecessary changes to it. I barely look at the DA front pages due to the surge of AI-generated plagiarism over the course of 2023. I hope this crap goes the embarrassing way of the NFT Apes. When I first came to DA in December 2006, I was full of optimism. Now, I'm full of regrets and embarrassment. There were a lot of genuinely rotten depraved people that I wish I never interacted with. I made tons of comments that I regret, too. I wish I can take it all back, what awful baggage. Getting into the Hetalia series was one of my bigger regrets. The fandom had some vile scumbags in it. ...Russia invaded Ukraine, happy now, you sadistic fuckers?! I don't want to know what those monsters have to say about Israel massacring Palestinian people again. And God help you if you denounce racism and sexism on here- people were evil as hell about it years ago. I'm sure that it's much worse now. At least I never got covid-19
this site is so broken
I can't see large images, everything loads at a snail's pace. I tried to make a comment on a drawing, but the screen kept freezing so I didn't bother. The layouts are so cumbersome & redundant. This site used to be so much better... back in the late 2000s.
I'm still alive, not very active on here
I'm just not active on here because this community seems to have been a dead zone for years. *sigh* Nobody even wants to talk about fun things. I can't remember the last time I logged in. I look at my notifications and they're slower and more cumbersome than ever before. I can't save pictures as well as I used to, either. What to do... And I was so right about there being a lot of evil in the world. I wish I was wrong.
Finally, my inbox is down to 56
At long last. I chipped away at it for the last 5 days, despite Eclipse being obnoxiously slow and clunky on purpose. Perhaps I can keep it manageable if I log in once a week or so. It was nice just looking at art during that time. I also looked at a lot of recent Crash Bandicoot art and I felt like a teenager again. Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time is such a good game, by the way. Also, Happy Twin Peaks Day.

Regarding Ukraine, I wouldn't really put all the blame on Putin, but also on Obama and EU leaders for supporting the neo-nazi rise to power, who are now taking the rights of many away, minorities and even ukrainians. It's funny that many people forget that in some revolutions, bad people can come to power (see: Stalin, Napoleon, Washington, etc). I am not defending Putin here, but there's always two sides to every coin. I support the anti corruption protests and a revolution, but sadly, nazis took over.
